The Return of Roy Rogers
By: Henry Cabot Beck 11/03/2009
Nashville-based 821 Entertainment is launching the most ambitious Roy Rogers program since, well, Leonard Slye became Roy Rogers.
“We need Roy,” says 821 CEO Eric Geadelmann, “and we’ve created a great opportunity to bring him back to the fore.”
Roy will be featured in Fantasy Adventure trilogy films, as well as animated films, merchandising, graphic novels, 33 remastered films and re-released CDs as well as new recording projects that may be a series of duets and interpretations of Roy Rogers songs by contemporary artists. That’s a lot of Roy.
The film company is also working on a biopic about Hank Williams Sr. Casting that gem ought to be interesting, for both the characters of Hank and his wife Audrey.
Cowboys & Aliens
Cowboys & Aliens, the movie based on a 2006 graphic novel in which Apaches and cowpokes put aside their differences to kick some E.T. butt, is finally in the launch position for a 2011 release. The only actor in place is Robert Downey Jr.
This movie has summer blockbuster written all over it. The folks in charge are the same people responsible for Iron Man and Transformers. They have the money, the talent and the story—but shouldn’t the title be Cowboys & Indians & Aliens?
