Arriving on DVD in late January is The Donner Party, a new take on the famous events of 1846-47, when a group of emigrants, en route from Illinois to California, were trapped by snow in the Sierra Nevadas and forced to resort to cannibalism to survive. Starring as William Foster, who survived the tragedy, is Crispin Glover, and as Franklin Graves, who didn’t, is Mark Boone Jr. Also in the picture is Christian Kane, from the TNT series Leverage. Movie footage can be downloaded at AintItCool.com.
Also check out Ric Burns’s 1997 documentary American Experience: The Donner Party, portions of which can be found on YouTube. You can also search pbs.org for more information on Burns’s documentary.
