Darley Wins Emmy!

Congratulations to our favorite Trail Rider!

Darley Newman, who writes the monthly feature “Trail Rider” for True West Magazine, is getting well-deserved recognition in another medium.

Her Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) series Equitrekking won for Outstanding Single Camera Photography. Her show was also nominated for Outstanding Special Class Series. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presented the awards on August 30, 2009, in Los Angeles.

Equitrekking, produced by Newman and her husband Chip Ward, goes around the world to show horse riding experiences and the destination’s natural surroundings and history.  She also offers her thoughts on preserving the beauty and heritage of those places.

Newman’s True West column does much of the same, with a focus on the American West.  Best of all, almost all of the locations are open to anyone.

“The series is a combination of my passion for horses and travel," Newman says. "It was my dream to create and produce Equitrekking, so winning the Emmy is amazing. It is quite a feat to win an Emmy, but even more so for Equitrekking, as we only have three people in our crew! We call ourselves small, but mighty.”

“We’re thrilled to see Darley receive this honor,” says True West Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell.  “’Trail Rider’ has become one of our most popular features—and it’s obvious that Darley's work translates well in any medium.”

Among the locations featured in “Trail Rider” are Canyon de Chelly in Arizona; Big Timber, Montana; Antelope Island, Utah; and Lincoln County, New Mexico.
