Phyllis Morreale-de la Garza
Phyllis Morreale de la Garza was born in Woodstock, Illinois. Her father was a livestock buyer and owner of J. Morreale Meat Packing Co., in Harvard, Illinois. She raised and trained Arabian horses and is married to Captain Luis de la Garza, a retired Mexican cavalry officer. Her article about the Apache Kid, published by True West in 1995, was a Spur Finalist in the short non-fiction category. She has written non-fiction books including, The Apache Kid, The Story of Dos Cabezas and Death for Dinner, the Benders of (Old) Kansas, plus 10 novels that are still in print. She is a member of the Western Writers of America, the Sulphur Springs Valley Historical Society and the Tombstone Vigilettes. She is a book reviewer for True West, Chronicles of the Old West and Seasons Magazine. She owns a home outside Willcox, Arizona, in the heart of Apache Country, where she reads, writes and rides.
