Buffalo Bill Historical Center

About Us

The Buffalo Bill Museum is the place to learn about the public and private lives of Cody's namesake. William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody was the ultimate jack-of-all-trades, working throughout his life as a prospector, bullwhacker, trapper, buffalo hunter, army scout, guide, and producer.

At the Plains Indian Museum, visitors can share the stories of the Plains Indian peoples--their cultures, traditions, values and histories--as well as the contexts of their lives today. The Plains Indian Museum also sponsors the spectacular Plains Indian Museum Powwow held each June in the Robbie Powwow Garden at the historical center, an event which attracts dancers from all over North America.

For fifty years, the Whitney Gallery of Western Art has displayed some of the most stunning, priceless masterworks of art inspired by the American West. Closed for renovation since October 2008, the Whitney Gallery of Western Art re-opens June 21, 2009, and promises to be worth the wait.

The Cody Firearms Museum houses the most comprehensive assemblage of American firearms in the world.

The Draper Museum of Natural History is a must for the Yellowstone explorer. Visitors can explore interactive trails that replicate sights, sounds, and yes, even the smells of the Greater Yellowstone region--one of the most compelling biological and geological theaters in the world.
